The catalogue of Lewis's 2015 show at LE BAL, bringing together seven series, from The Pitch (1998) to Above and Below the Minhocão (2014). The title refers to that last film, made in São Paulo: the Minhocão is the elevated motorway that cuts through the city, three and a half kilometres long, the largest road project in South America when it was built in 1970. Urban sprawl, the weight of traffic, air pollution and noise have turned this outgrowth of modernity into a monument not to progress but to its collapse, and the book holds the whole underside of an idea of speed, flow and growth.
