Between 8.30 and 9.30 in the morning, from 2007 to 2016, on the south corner of 42nd Street and Vanderbilt Avenue in New York. Funch imposed those limits on himself for nine years, and the book is what came of them: the same people crossing the same few metres on the short walk from A to B, sorted into categories by a method that is half intuition and half taxonomy. Gestures and behaviours that nobody would look at twice turn into meditations on time, on mortality, on public and private space, on the economy and on what people carry inside while they commute.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is a digital platform dedicated to independent photobooks, photography publications, design books, and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
