The highly anticipated reissue of Lost Coast, Curran Hatleberg's debut monograph. First published in 2016 and out of print for nearly a decade, Lost Coast has become one of the most sought-after titles in contemporary photography, rarely, if ever, seen on the secondary market. This new edition, faithful in every aspect to the original sequence and editing (but different in the cover: red that of the first edition, green this one) presents a significantly improved production: remastered files, better printing quality, reproduction of colors and materials, all executed with the precision and care that have always characterized Hatleberg's work. In Lost Coast, Hatleberg presents a narrative centered on Eureka, California. The photographs move between portraits and landscapes, between moments of participatory sharing and more silent and distant glances. Each image seems like a short story, full of details, never reductive, always offering a complex description of a place marked in equal measure by natural grandeur and the progressive disappointment of economic promises. The book's title is a reference to a remote stretch of California's northern coast, but it also hints at a deeper sense of decay, lives lived on the margins, dreams put on the back burner, and beauty overlooked.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
