Built on found 16mm agricultural and advertising footage shot in America in the 1960s

A project grounded in research on the food production industry and on the relations between humans and animals, eaters and eaten. It starts from a batch of found 16mm agricultural and advertising footage shot in America in the 1960s, at a sharp moment of industrial and technological change in farming: with labour and land increasingly replaced by chemical applications and machinery, commercial farms were growing larger and fewer.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
