Żmijewski is one of the most important radical figures on the Polish art scene. His work reflects a concern with the socio-political problems of our present, examining the mechanisms of power and oppression within the existing social order — as well as conflicts of various kinds bordering on violence — and bringing out the relation between extreme emotions and their physical expression, including the impact on memory and on collective trauma, without ever losing interest in the classic subject of sculpture: the representation of the human body.
