The artist's first monograph brings together pictures from various trips to Africa. Although she grew up in the Netherlands, she lived in Kenya between the ages of two and five, while her father worked in a local hospital, and her first return to the continent came in 2001, at twenty-nine. The book is made mostly of portraits built collaboratively with her subjects, some spontaneous and others performative: as with memories or thoughts, the pictures are not isolated but form a fluid stream of associations.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is a digital platform dedicated to independent photobooks, photography publications, design books, and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
