Investigating the labyrinths of promises and simulacra of technical images, and their impact on perception and on contemporary culture, has become the motto of Ricardo Barcellos' production over the last two decades. Among countless procedures aimed at dislodging the illusory surface of images and the passive relationship we commonly have with them, the artist ends up “dynamiting the alienating ideology impregnated in the images that cross us and seduce us incessantly”, in the words of the art historian Josué Mattos. This first book brings together a large part of that work.
