The zine is based on pictures taken during the author's travels in numerous countries.

“There's a certain pleasure in being lost in the world. Wandering explorers have that tendency to feel a part of everything at once and yet separated by it all. For those of us who have decided not to complete a polished narrative based on the assumptions of the society we live in, we have taken a more astral approach to stitching together something coherent. I always meant to travel the way I felt. I wanted to connect with the spirit of movement, meaning that thing in me that has a desire to see things, to continue to be curious, and to follow it. It is an incoherent, nonlinear version of what it is to be alive.”

The title comes from an exchange in Romeo and Juliet, where Mercutio tells Romeo that dreamers often lie, and Romeo answers: in bed asleep, while they do dream things true.

ABOUT

The project

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.

Images and rights

Covers, interior pages and descriptions are shown to introduce and identify the books, always crediting publisher, author and photographer and linking back to the publisher. We ask publishers for their permission, and we remove anything on request within 7 days. If you are a publisher, an author or a photographer and you want something changed or removed, write to info@spineindex.it.
