The work was made between February and April 2021, during the period when physical distancing was still mandatory in France. The artist invited ninety-nine people to her studio, one after another, the hundredth participant being herself; they sat facing each other while she held their hands and drew their portraits on their palms, then had them press their hands onto Plexiglas, leaving the portrait as an imprint.

The title plays on the French for untitled, signifying a state of absence and silence: these portraits are mouthless, shoulderless and perforated, evoking a spectral presence in which everyone wanders like a phantom. They make visible a sense of loss and amputation, between unsettling anonymity and tangible individuality. Against the background of a crisis that curtailed physical contact, the artist chose to explore that loss of connection and to resist through her work, as a reminder of the value of close human contact.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is a digital platform dedicated to independent photobooks, photography publications, design books, and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
