From the collection of the town of Lonato del Garda

This monograph celebrates a master of Italian work through a selection of the pieces that the town of Lonato del Garda received as a gift from the artist after the exhibition it hosted in 1984.

The images, which belong to some of the most important series he made between 1955 and the early eighties, give back the poetic and anarchic eye of a self-taught man influenced by many learned references: from neorealist cinema and Cesare Zavattini, to the post-impressionist painting of Paul Gauguin (Scanno, Verrà la morte e avrà i tuoi occhi), to the informal suggestions of Alberto Burri (Presa di coscienza sulla natura).

ABOUT

SpineIndex is a digital platform dedicated to independent photobooks, photography publications, design books, and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
