The French maker Sophie Zénon has travelled across Asia for more than ten years. Initially she spent a long time in Mongolia, Siberia and the Amur river basin.
The relationship between water and landscape is made crystal clear in her panoramas: water is the basis of life, and therefore of thought; it is omnipresent, forming an inextricable whole with its environment and being its cause. Her way of working transcends several fundamental principles of the medium. On the one hand she places nature at the fore in an almost literary manner, expressing philosophical reflection on the role of the elements through forms and shadows; on the other, like Henri Cartier-Bresson, she has mastered the art of catching short-lived and unique moments. One of her sources of inspiration is the Finnish master of both genres, Pentti Sammallahti.
