Cats occupy a prominent position at this house: its logo is a cat — not just any cat, but Rhubarb, born in the publisher's house in 2008, whose mesmerising gaze graces the spine of every volume issued since, immortalised in drawings by the artist Paul van der Steen.

So the house long felt an obligation to its living legend to create a homage to the feline race in book form: not just another volume featuring these creatures, but one filled with work by exceptional practitioners. Professionals were invited to send their best cat pictures, and together with the chief editor Sacha de Boer the most inspiring submissions were selected, with her own cat Julius, now dead, taking pride of place on the cover.
