Three newspapers issued to accompany the touring exhibition of the same name, a show that was lost and has now been remade.

In 1975 Meadows took up a two-year post as photographer in residence to the Borough of Pendle in Lancashire, where he was drawn to Bancroft Shed, the last steam-powered cotton-weaving mill in the district. Against a backdrop of industrial decline he recorded the life of the mill and made a portrait of the people who worked there and of their disappearing trades. The work was first shown in 1978 as part of the Half Moon Photography Workshop's programme of cheap, portable touring exhibitions, sent from galleries to community centres, from Shetland to Germany; eventually it was lost. Fifty years on he has worked with Four Corners to recreate the original, and this publication travels with it.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is a digital platform dedicated to independent photobooks, photography publications, design books, and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
