The third part of an American trilogy, built as an extension of American Puzzle, published by the same house in 2012. Like it, it restores a singular and fragmentary vision of a fractured country, one that sees its natural glue — the American dream — fading away.

“In 2016, during the electoral campaign, I returned to the American West. Between the village of Eureka in Nevada and the town of Eureka in California, I was confronted with that America of small deserted towns, closed stores and diners with unchanging menus. I then believed the election of a caricatural businessman improbable, despite the omnipresence of his supporters' signs. How to imagine that the same people would vote for Donald Trump after having elected Barack Obama? Except that it was not the same people: I met again, as in American Puzzle, two Americas, that of the hamlets and that of the cities. A few months later the first would take its revenge on the second.”

ABOUT

SpineIndex is a digital platform dedicated to independent photobooks, photography publications, design books, and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
