Text by Jacques Drillon

Jean-Pierre Gilson has been recording the forest of Compiègne tirelessly for decades. Here he invites us to share the four seasons of a territory lived in and crossed. In the trace of his own steps, page after page, we walk the paths, the rides, the flows and the layons. From places such as Boquet Gras, Les Clavières or Le Voliard, we take the route des Brigands and that of the Planchettes; we skip over the rus de Berne and the Pré Tortu, go round the Mare de l'Arbre Sec and the Étang de l'Étôt; we cross the Capitaine crossroads, the Plaideurs crossroads, the Trou Fondu and the aptly named Belle Image. The volume is a journey towards a rich fauna and, above all, towards a spectacular forest.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
