Text by Gilles Clément

A committed volume that questions the relation between humans and the living: feelings still present, but also the successive phases of the long history of humanity that led to a catastrophic dominant economic system, and that today make it necessary to enter into resistance and to think other possible relations.

From the opening, Gilles Clément invites us on a walk through a dreamlike forest and through his reflections; there we meet the deer, who guides us, in a poetry that continues throughout in spicy botanical notes. Baptiste Lignel travelled across France, metropolitan and overseas, to bear witness to the ways and the places in which the notion of the wild — the exploitation of the living — is deployed. His black and white images, imbued with graphic poetry, are accompanied by the journalistic precision of their captions.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
