“The geographical centre of Helsinki sits in a field within the Viikki research farm area. Although the city centre is further south, the actual core lies here, and the surrounding area is remarkably diverse: an arboretum, a university campus, fields, grazing cows and sheep, new developments and a construction material storage site, scrap metal yards, a nature reserve and so on. I have a long-term interest in the region, taking varying approaches in my documentation work; this can be considered a survey of landscape diversity. It is the second publication in the Centrum series.”

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
