A re-edition of the colouring book inspired by Dolly Parton, the country singer who was as famous in the 1970s and 1980s for her songs as for her figure. The original book, aimed mainly at children, erased her archetypal physical attributes altogether: Dolly Parton appears in more formal clothes and her chest is considerably reduced. In the same spirit of recovered innocence, the book shows the star as a child and as a teenager, set in an imagined nature in the great tradition of Americana folklore. What makes the booklet interesting is the gap between Dolly Parton's public image as a sex symbol — which the cover throws in your face — and the childlike world of a colouring book. It says something about a society that can be puritanical, even prudish, about what it shows children, and that nonetheless picks a hyper-sexualised figure as the role model for one.
