The project «Rayon Vert» takes its title from the optical phenomenon and the 1986 Eric Rohmer film, both of which are reflected in the project's approach to portraiture. The work can be seen as a continuation of the tradition focussing on the vital relationship between artist and model. The images feature a circle of acquaintances and respond to existing, and too often clichéd, representation of femininity. Rayon Vert relates to a number of things. The title of Éric Rohmer's 1986 film, Jules Verne's novel of the same title, the optical phenomenon and the latest work and book from Swiss artist Senta Simond. Parallels can be drawn between the new work and the 1986 film, the book and the phenomenon in numerous ways. The work itself is entirely made up through photographs of women, perhaps more predominantly Senta's friends.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
