Stéphanie Kiwitt surveys the continuum of everyday urban life, to keep a photographic chronicle of small installations, voluntary or involuntary, that she spots in this public space. These interventions, so barely visible to the passer-by who walks at a hurried pace, are the work of isolated individuals and are not the result of a premeditated act of modification of urban space. These non-events, most often the product of small arrangements, accidents, adaptations which come, as if by break-in, to interfere in the beautiful layout of the city designed by its managers. The desire to administer rationally, sometimes even arbitrarily, urban space necessarily comes up against complexity, chance and unpredictability. “Daily life, for me, is a continuity of actions, regulated by standards and organizational structures. What interests me are these everyday states, in which this continuity is interrupted, either by unforeseen incidents, or by diverging (aberrant) behavior of individuals. » Taken separately, these small intrusions attract little or no attention. Stéphanie Kiwitt's work consists of putting them into perspective, echoing them, restoring their poetic, irreducible component. Cornerville visualizes a place that cannot be described as a homogeneous space, governed by stable, certain structures. This work was carried out during a residency in Marseille in 2006 and 2007.
