Patrick Messina is a lover of the urban form in what it contains of coincidences and hypotheses. He likes to wander the city and share his astonishment, his curiosity, his attachment to this world of incessant transformations, where women and men pursue a multitude of singular destinies. The photographer's gaze focuses on this intertwining of fluidity, lights, ruptures, which characterize the shape of cities. In Wayfaring, Patrick Messina plays with scales, from the point of view from which he operates, to create a feeling of unreality, plunging the viewer into a disturbance, a visual disturbance. The photographer does not seek to give us clues about the spaces represented. It does not matter to him to let us know if we are in front of a photograph of this or that metropolis, it is the city in the generic sense of the term which is the object of his interest. Between the urban landscapes we find portraits that highlight the fragility of the human presence in these worlds that seem to escape us. We also discover all the ambiguity of the relationship that our contemporary societies have with the “natural” spaces that persist.
