I arrived in Libya for the first time in December 2014. Ras-Jedir, on the Tunisian border, then the town of Zuwara, known for the departures and shipwrecks of migrant boats leaving for Italy. Those who live fifty-fifty: death or life. In Zuwara I meet Younes, 26, a telecommunications engineer, who became a fixer for journalists. During our first meeting, Younes asks me a question that is both moving and relevant: “Are you here for the migrants or for the war? » Upsetting because it demonstrates the intentions of the media and the interest they have in his country. Relevant, direct and straightforward because it sets the context: is a dissociation possible between the war and the fate of migrants? The book FIFTY-FIFTY leads the viewer into a story where the relationships of visibility and invisibility are replayed between people who live together and meet for better and for worse. ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
