Born in Busan, South Korea, to unknown parents, Stéphane Winter finds himself immersed against his will in the life of an almost ordinary Swiss couple - in a small apartment in the suburbs of Lausanne. During the day, Robert Winter is a mechanic, Pierrette does housework. In a closed session of three, everyday evenings are lulled by the drone of Austrian television. We also study the characteristics of the latest Opel, the next car for which we will have to save patiently. We get a little bored, and when we're bored enough, we indulge in role-playing during impromptu photo shoots. On the weekend, you should visit an aunt in German Switzerland or take a walk at the Great Saint Bernard Pass. In this recomposed landscape, Stéphane Winter sometimes seems to mischievously embody the character from the eighties Alf the extra-terrestrial. Outside, the seasons change, the snow accumulates on the balcony, the parking lot and the residence opposite — identical. Cars have left their mark in the winter. From the balcony, you can observe the neighboring highway which pierces the landscape; a few years later, an anti-noise tunnel - the highway is still there... In this suburb of Lausanne, we are far from the Switzerland of watches and thousand notes. For the Winters, it’s the more discreet Switzerland of allotment gardens and Migros. Stéphane Winter describes here, restricted to a few people, the intimacy of a very small world, which he has photographed since he was 14 years old and has fun with a camera - he has done it without the ambition of exposing it publicly or of doing something supposedly serious with it.
