"We wander in the invisible worlds waiting to fall into bodies. Consciousness in that phase imbues itself, it remains to be looked at. The boundaries of each one breathe, thickening and thinning, breathed by consciousness. We find ourselves spontaneously, we seem to say goodbye without the need to move our legs and arms. Instead of stretching our fingers, it is the dust of consciousness that stretches itself, massaging us in its impalpable, jovial accordion." - from the text of Francesco Pacifico. After the success of the urban anti-dream Adriatico - his debut book - Riccardo Fregoso returns with a new volume, where the images are no longer composed by the late afternoon light of the Adriatic coast, but by the winter light, entirely Lombard, which Fregoso knows equally well. The rarefied atmospheres that this ephemeral and sharp light produces are equally metaphysical, but the subjects change. Intimacy no longer belongs to childhood memories and summer holidays: it takes shape, instead, within the home walls and in familiar landscapes, where light filters through curtains and windows, rests on everyday objects and affections, building new emotional geographies. The images that make up the volume were taken starting from 2018, and are the result of a seven-year journey. The result is a corpus that rejects the rhetoric of "returning home" to open up, instead, to a broader reflection on the ability of photography to transform everyday life into a field of questioning. In this new sequence, Fregoso constructs a magical realism that stands out for its compositional finesse and luminous sensitivity: it is precisely the light, working by subtraction, that excavates, isolates and reveals gestures, faces and places, restoring interstitial spaces of an ordinary that becomes extraordinary. The volume, designed by Martina Krosneva, is accompanied by a text by Francesco Pacifico (translated into English by Stephen Piccolo), and will be presented by Micamera - in the presence of the author - on 11 December. We are waiting for you!
