For the first time McCullin's legendary photographs of the Vietnam War are collected in a book entirely dedicated to this conflict. McCullin, who will turn 91 in the autumn of 2026, presents - in what he himself defined as his "last ever editorial work" - a paper retrospective of the period spent in Vietnam, divided into three sections or "campaigns" corresponding to the trips made in the region during the war. The volume is the result of in-depth archival research and includes approximately 100 black and white images and over 20 color photographs; almost half of them have never been published or exhibited before. Famous images of the Marines are flanked by shots of daily life taken in the middle of the battlefield: men and women, dead or dying, flushed out of bunkers, and piles of human and mechanical remains immersed in the fog of war.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is a digital platform dedicated to independent photobooks, photography publications, design books, and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
