With an approach that fuses symbolism and documentary, Azov Horizons explores behind the scenes of a geographic area now engulfed in the violent struggle for Russian control of southern Ukraine, while evoking the transformations taking place in the societies of both countries: one mired in bellicose authoritarianism, the other fighting for survival. The images draw our attention to the roots and visible traces of the war; they are the behind the scenes of an inconceivable horror that is taking place on European soil. I hope they whisper to our collective consciousness that what we take for granted is not immutable. There are still many trips to do: I can no longer imagine a summer without Ukraine. —Patrick Wack

ABOUT

SpineIndex is a digital platform dedicated to independent photobooks, photography publications, design books, and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
