The eye of Alphonse Guillot spans the first half of the 20th century.

A fan of the Vérascope Richard, a small format stereoscopic camera, Guillot combines testimonies relating his private life and key moments in History into his photographic album. Alternately a portraitist in his family environment, an ethnographer, a reporter adept at snapshots, the photographer reports on the metamorphoses and dramas of his time.

It marks the birth of automobile travel and mass tourism, the transformation of the urban landscape and the countryside to which the road gives access, the delights of the seaside; he describes in bits and pieces episodes from the First and Second World Wars.

Through his images, he records the life of his family, punctuated by loves, births, deaths. This theater lover also finds, in the magic of stereoscopic relief, the means to pursue his passion through numerous burlesque productions.

The singular figure of Alphonse Guillot traces, in a more universal way, the research of thousands of anonymous operators who, with amateur photography, wrote the visual novel of the 20th century.
