Text by Marielsa Niels, Anne Bationo-Tillon and Muriel Prévot-Carpentier

At the café, in the evening, in the street, I meet residents and workers and I ask them about their notion of “work”, more specifically about what happens internally during their usual journeys.

We enter together into a “dialogical” dynamic: from our tête-à-tête fragments of words are revealed, words to which I respond through photography and its formatting (drilling, embroidery, materials of the floors that we walk on, etc.).

Together we become a constellation of encounters, invoking appeasement, transformation, connection, thought, etc. thus revealing invisible dynamics that weave the links between territory and “work”.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
