In Cécile Wick's pinhole-camera Polaroids, islands in the sea, waterfalls, cloud formations and her own face — overlaid with rock and plant forms — transform into strange photographic apparitions. No instant is frozen here by the apparatus; rather a photographic span of time expands, manifesting itself only allusively, in the softness of contour, in the specifically blurred light-dark transitions of the camera-obscura pictures.
