For years Anne-Lise Coste has explored the dialogue between art and language. In her large-format ink drawings too — all made in the summer of 2005 and now united for the first time as a complete work-group — she oscillates between text and image. Supple and light yet with a certain urgency and rawness, the thick brushstroke is led across the paper. Diary-like notes, thoughts and feelings take on, in their almost heroic scale, a mercilessly public character. Graffiti as well as the art of calligraphy and the calligram resound.
