Universen, an unconventional mixture of an artist's book and an œuvre catalogue with an index of images, is the first major publication by huber.huber (Markus and Reto Huber). The two Zürich artists carry the viewer into a wonderfully proliferating cosmos of images, created with their virtuoso — analog — collage technique. A selection of collages and ink drawings from the large work-group MIKROUNIVERSUM (2005–2011) runs in relatively chronological order as a “lead series” through the procession of pictures. Other works appear in between, taking up aspects of the lead series and transforming them into ever more complex collages; up to four reproductions from various work-groups are woven into new picture compositions.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
