The artist's book Widersprüchliche Bewegungsreize (Contradictory Movement Stimuli) follows on from the publication Universen (Edition Patrick Frey, 2011) and makes the artistic output of the past ten years visible and tangible in the form of an artist's book. Once again readers are carried into a wonderfully proliferating cosmos of images. Unlike in Universen, the defining image-carriers are not collages and ink drawings; instead the focus lies entirely on the photographs of huber.huber. Composed into double spreads, they form surfacing and submerging sequences, into which further works in other techniques are woven. The shimmering tapestry of images sets off genuinely contradictory movement stimuli and, in extreme cases, leads to the same symptoms as motion sickness. Short text entries (translated into seven languages in all), oscillating between terse descriptions and associative sense impressions, provide a key to some pictures while also serving as soothing pauses. An unusually expansive index, with its simple words for things and qualities (apple, Petri dish, salt lake, or damp, geometric, uncanny), makes the cosmos of images legible.
