Valery Rizzo began her personal series on Brooklyn after an illness that limited her mobility inspired her to work with »toy cameras«. This simple and accessible technique allowed her to spontaneously capture unique moments and people in the city. Wonderland. Brooklyn 2007–2023 also documents the transformation of Brooklyn, where the new coexists harmoniously with the old. With photographs spanning nearly twenty years and a foreword by the award-winning photographer Claudio Edinger, the project embodies Rizzo’s deeprooted connection to her hometown. Rizzo is a Brooklyn-based photographer. Her work has been exhibited worldwide, including at the Museum of the City of New York, Photoville, and the Powerhouse Arena. She was a finalist in the 2021 Urban Book Awards and the Urban Photo Awards in Trieste, Italy.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is a digital platform dedicated to independent photobooks, photography publications, design books, and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
