Through the eighty-two images and texts that make up this book, Susann Carmen Jagodzińska takes us on a journey through her life, her childhood memories in Poland and Germany, and invites us to question the notion of the “true self”. She builds a story, takes us from the city to the sea by way of the forest; the text resonates with the images and adds substance to her story. “Echo of Photons is an intuitive and intimate work that documents the process in which I become aware of the experience of the fragmentation of the heart and the nature that drives it. Photography is a way of anchoring myself, of stabilising the present moment and validating my experience; it is a dialogue with what is. The written form is for me a puzzle: the wider image is formed from the fragmented self and gives space to memory to surface.”

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
