John Coffey feels he wasted his college years writing graffiti and going to music shows. Nick DiFalco and Stephen Powers completely disagree, offering themselves as proof that John influenced an entire school of graffiti art that grew out of the concrete of Philadelphia in early 1980s, and flourises to this day. This book compiles two hundred photographs by John Coffey of graffiti and music that was happening in Philadelphia on a nightly basis from 1980-1983. This is a unique document from one person participating in graffiti and witnessing the new wave of music, while both movements were just starting their ascent out of the underground. The status John created for himself writing Mr. BLINT allowed him to look at all the musicians as mutuals, and some of them as equals. Nick Di Falco wrote a forward detailing his first hand experience growing in the direct light of Mr. BLINT. Stephen Powers writes about growing in the direct light of Nick, and the reflected light of Mr. BLINT. Powers also writes about a time in the early 90’s when he was walking in John Coffey’s shoes up and down South Street. Powers closes the book with a biographical sketch of John Mr.BLINT Coffey. As DiFalco and Powers write about Coffey and themselves, they pull focus on Philadelphia, the city that made all three of them and the three worked to remake in return.
