When we connect with new people and gain deeper understanding, we feel a happiness that makes us glad to be alive. When I take portraits with my manual focus camera, especially with a bright lens, it takes a few seconds to focus. Yet that brief moment can be effective at drawing out a good expression. Those few seconds spent wishing happiness for my subject feel like they connect to tomorrow's hope.
