In this book, produced on the fourth Sardinia Commission, promoted by the Fondazione Sardegna, and edited by Marco Delogu, Paolo Ventura transforms time into space, working on completely personal visions, which are the result of stratifications of images and signs. Travelling around Sardinia, Ventura collects visual notes from the island. Ventura leaves Antonio Donghi, his reference, and aligns himself with Mario Sironi’s suburbs. He focuses on a series of urban landscapes, and in particular is captivated by the Conti Vecchi salt mines. Within the book, Ventura’s photographic work is preceded by images of artists who travelled through Sardinia between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries such as Uberto Bonetti, Giulio Cisari, Bartolomeo Giuliano, Hector Nava, Gaston Vuillier, and photographers Vittorio Alinari and August Sander.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is a digital platform dedicated to independent photobooks, photography publications, design books, and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
