Olivo Barbieri photographs the dolmens and menhirs of Sardinia. “The stones of Sardinia are, granted, nothing but big stones. But the man who looks at them cannot hold back the hippogriff-leap of his imagination” (Andrea Cortellessa). The book sets these prehistoric megaliths within the structural and cultural relationships that link the island to other Mediterranean regions – the Iberian peninsula, France and especially nearby Corsica – sharing a common matrix while yielding monumental outcomes peculiar to each region.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
