At my house there is a cat named Hattori-kun, who fled from Futaba in Fukushima when the Great East Japan Earthquake devastated the area in 2011. At first I was not much interested in photographing cats, but as I spent time with him I was drawn to his solitariness and his loveliness. Looking one day at the last few frames of a roll of film, I found Hattori-kun gazing back with an expression like my own, his domesticated instinct showing for a moment the wild nature only I could see. This book is the story of love that Hattori-kun and I have spun together.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is a digital platform dedicated to independent photobooks, photography publications, design books, and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
