Since 2019 Agency has been bringing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists, their culture and art to Sicily, as part of a partnership with the cultural centre FARM Cultural Park. Participating and exhibiting artists have included: Regina Pilawuk Wilson (2019), The Mulka Project (2021), Amrita Hepi (2022) and Corben Mudjandi (2023). The most recent of these projects took place in June 2023, and saw Mirrar Traditional Owner and emerging photographer from Jabiru, Corben Mudjandi, travelling to Italy for a 2-week residency followed by an exhibition curated by Agency in collaboration with Marrawuddi Arts and Culture, as part of the Australian Pavilion of the Countless Cities Biennale at FARM. This project has attracted the interest of Melbourne-based institutions such as the Museum of Australian Photography, with whom Agency worked with to curate an exhibition of works by Corben that will be launched as part of the photography festival Photo 24—with an eye to encouraging an acquisition for the Museum collection.

ABOUT

The project

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.

Images and rights

Covers, interior pages and descriptions are shown to introduce and identify the books, always crediting publisher, author and photographer and linking back to the publisher. We ask publishers for their permission, and we remove anything on request within 7 days. If you are a publisher, an author or a photographer and you want something changed or removed, write to info@spineindex.it.
