The places where prostitutes are found may be secret or public, but they are forever shrouded in mystery and legends. Even if they are listed in guidebooks, there is always a hidden courtyard or back alley that nobody knows about: the “real” Falkland Road, Tuol Kork, or Patpong.

How are you supposed to photograph something that seems to escape your gaze by constantly shaping new realities?

I started to do this and, in the process, began collecting more and more photos. Every evening I sat in front of the pictures and tried to pick the one that said it all. The one that portrayed the “real” Patpong, that showed the ghosts, that reflected my own mood, or just showed the way it really was there.
