Originally from the rural Saône-et-Loire, Depardon was born and raised on the family farm of the Garet that made him a photographer; a first book on the farm, published in 1994, was highly acclaimed. In 2020, as a tribute to this essential place, he offers a journey through 34 iconic images taken in the farm’s rooms, with a text by the philosopher Jacques Rancière.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
