In his colour portraits and genre scenes from Germany and the world, Robert Lebeck captured current events. He had shameless luck: he lived through a time of prosperity in West Germany, and Stern sent its photo reporter out to the political hot spots, the exciting, wonderful and wretched places, to the people and events. Lebeck photographed periods, spaces of thought, cultural spaces. Unverschämtes Glück is the continuation and counterpart of his volume “Vis-à-vis”: after the black-and-white pictures his colour photographs can be seen here for the first time. In four chapters, romance, comedy, satire and tragedy, he takes the viewer on his travels to Russia and Bangladesh, Ireland and Papua New Guinea, China and Brazil, to Salvador Dalí and Joseph Beuys, Pelé and Romy Schneider, to the rich and beautiful and to the poorest of the poor.
