In the winter of 1972, between 8h15 and 8h30 one cold morning, photographer Peter Wyss photographed the actress Aurore Clément — unaware, in tears, in what had been Mistinguett's dressing room on the terrace of the Moulin Rouge. Years later, Clément showed writer Mathieu Terence the small handmade black book Wyss had given her with those photographs, and together they shaped it into this book. Clément writes of recognising herself at a crucial crossroads she only understood in retrospect; a moment of departure and becoming. The title, drawn from Terence's text, evokes a woman perpetually in flight, always becoming, never fixed.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
