“Walter Höllerer was the first author I photographed. But it is not only for that reason that he is on the first page of my book, but because I owe him my existence as a writers’ photographer. In 1964 he brought me to the Literarisches Colloquium Berlin, and from then on my environment was that of literature.” This is how Renate von Mangoldt describes the beginning of her work as an author photographer. For fifty years she has directed her eye, as a witness of her time, at the world of literature. Now a book has emerged, a kaleidoscope of pictures from the 1960s to today: portraits, snapshots, group pictures, event photos, always with writers at the centre. It is a unique archive of German literature.
