Based on thorough research in the holdings of the Civico Archivio Fotografico of Milan and on period manuscript and printed sources, it brings out the breadth of Milanese photographic history and its protagonists. From engravings to the views of the great professional photographers, such as Luigi Sacchi, Pompeo Pozzi, Giulio Rossi, Hippolyte Deroche and Francesco Heyland, it offers a wide range of studies, from the photographers’ relations with the Brera Academy and scientific institutions to the links between photography, architecture and urban development.
