Wild Morvan Tour. A doppelgänger is a biologically unrelated look-alike, or double, of a living person; in fiction and mythology it is often a ghostly or paranormal phenomenon and a harbinger of bad luck, and other traditions equate it with an evil twin. In the line of the collaborative projects set up by Le Mulet, such as the Belgian 1010 trilogy or the magazine Tropical Stoemp, Doppelgänger confronts the visions of two photographers. They met at the exact midpoint between their two homes, the Morvan regional park in France, and spent five days walking the region to make “four-eyed” diptychs. All the images were then printed in the darkroom by the authors themselves with lith developer. The result is a singular, archaic vision of this rough and virginal territory in central France.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
