Memoriales is inspired by the authors' interest in the experience of memory as a way of problematising and examining our relationship with the past and with the writing of history. For Bleda y Rosa this relationship is complex and problematic, since it inevitably reveals lapses of awareness, forgettings, exaggerations and contradictions. In total there are twenty-three images organised in three groups, each centred on one of the three cities treated: Berlin, Jerusalem and Washington. These are three cities marked by their past, urban territories in which vestiges of different historical moments persist and coexist. The artistic trajectory of Bleda y Rosa (María Bleda, Castellón, 1969; José María Rosa, Albacete, 1970) was consolidated in 1992 with their first series, Campos de fútbol; they have developed an authorial trajectory of recognised singularity and coherence, through a practice that takes as references the genres of landscape and topographic and architectural representation.

ABOUT

The project

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.

Images and rights

Covers, interior pages and descriptions are shown to introduce and identify the books, always crediting publisher, author and photographer and linking back to the publisher. We ask publishers for their permission, and we remove anything on request within 7 days. If you are a publisher, an author or a photographer and you want something changed or removed, write to info@spineindex.it.
