A book of photographs made in Spain by 38 Spanish and foreign photographers at different historical moments. Through three hundred photographs, the research carried out by Horacio Fernández begins with examples of the various premodern photographic languages: the representation of human types (racial, national, folkloric, tourist), archival documentation and landscape, with authors such as José María Álvarez de Toledo, Count of La Ventosa, Antoni Campañá, Alvin Langdon Coburn, Adolf Mas and José Ortiz Echagüe. The second section is devoted to modern photography of the thirties, with authors who practise precise photography in their reports on Spain (Brandt, Cartier-Bresson, Krull, Munkácsi) alongside portraits, urban and tourist views and reportage. The images of the Misiones Pedagógicas, mostly by José Val del Omar, stand out as collective photography answering a political and cultural programme, and Spanish Civil War photography is shown through Renau, Heartfield, rearguard images by Reuter and military portraits by Jalón Ángel.
