A new perspective on the work of the photo artist, who is known for large-scale backlit light boxes that resemble carefully composed film stills. The art historian ties his works in manifold ways to art history, and because of their elaborate arrangements Wall is often compared to modern masters. Many of his pictures are inspired by novels or stories and condense into intentional stagings of the everyday. With a special focus on constellations that present the medium of photography as a search for traces, the volume offers a new view of works that have rarely been shown in exhibitions.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
